Conference Weekend

We were lucky to be able to watch conference on TV. I decided to make a "tent" for the kids this time, which they absolutely loved. Before Conference started, we read in Mosiah where the people came together as families and pitched their tents to listen to King Benjamin. I also made topic jars and filled them with treats. If they heard one of the words on the jars, then they could pick a treat from that jar. Very quickly I realized that I had to limit it to one treat per talk! And on Sunday before we ate lunch I had to limit it to two treats for the whole two hours so that they didn't spoil their appetite! It really helped the kids listen, but by the end of the two hours they pretty much had lost interest and I had to keep telling them to be quiet and sit down. Tyler was the only one I made listen to both hours, but Morgan ended up listening to most of it too. And what can I say about Harrison? Well, he quickly realized the "game" and got very good at jumping up and getting a treat when the others did. One time he said, "OH! Betrayal! I get a treat!" WHAT?? Where was that written on a jar? That little booger - he just wanted to get as many treats as possible! One talk didn't have a single word said from any of the jars and Tyler was so bummed. :) I told him it was still important to listen to the talk.

I really enjoyed listening, but have to admit I got more out of the 2nd Saturday session when the kids were upstairs. But I realize that although I may not get a ton out of Conference when the kids are with me, I am still teaching them the valuable lesson that Conference is important and that we should listen to the talks from the prophet, General Authorities and other leaders of the church. It is so important to set an example for them in what I do, not just what I say. If all the sessions weren't important, then they wouldn't have them. If we don't teach our children when they are young, then they won't have the good habits and values instilled in them when they are older and it will be much much harder to have them make the right decisions and fall back on their knowledge of what they know is right. They won't be perfect, but I can help teach them the best I can so that they can make the least amount of mistakes possible if they try.

All I can say is . . . .

GO COLTS!!!!!!!!

I am proud to say I am an Indiana Hoosier rooting for the COLTS to win the SUPERBOWL!!!

We don't normally watch all the Colts games, but we try to at least know what's happening with them. Since this was a big game in the playoffs, we decided to watch it last night. It was so funny to see how much Tyler got into it! He kept saying, "Go Peyton Manny (I had to correct him a few times and tell him it was Manning!) or The Colts are awesome!" Morgan fell asleep so she wasn't quite as into it as the rest of us. :) It was a pretty good game if any of you missed it. The Colts came up from behind after half time. Towards the end of the game when we could tell the Colts were going to win (and after Morgan woke up) I painted Morgan's fingernails blue and white and mine blue to show our Colts spirit.

You can just imagine what it is like here in Indiana now! I'm excited to see the Superbowl because the Colts are playing the Saints, which our beloved Drew Brees, who was Purdue's star quarterback when we were there (and who Kent got to be in a commercial with for PEFCU), is the quarterback. Should be fun to watch!!! My prediction is that the Colts will win the Superbowl - just look at their winning streak (and the only reason they lost to the Jets the first time was b/c the coach rested the star players and played the 2nd string instead)!

COLTS COLTS COLTS COLTS COLTS!!!!!

Fun science experiments

Have bored, whiney kids? Have I got some ideas for you! Since we were home all day a couple weeks ago, I found some fun experiments to do with Morgan at this site. We made raisins dance (2nd picture), made some fizz and foam (first picture), and layered liquids (I didn't get a picture of it, but wish I would have!). It kept Morgan entertained plus it was kind of a mini science lesson too! We had a lot of fun and it was a great time to bond and spend some quality time with her. A couple weeks before I got the brainy idea to try to make rock candy (got the idea from the show Cyber Chase), but after a couple failed attempts I gave up. I didn't feel like wasting 12 more cups of sugar!

Sometimes Morgan is great at entertaining herself for hours and then other times she is in constant need of attention. I loved finding an activity that we BOTH enjoyed and that kept our attention! (Playing house or Barbies just doesn't keep me interested anymore!)

This sounds about like what happens to me!

My SIL, Jen, sent me this funny email. I don't like forwarding chain emails, but this was too close to home, so I decided to blog it!

Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.

This is how it manifests:

I decide to water my garden.

As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.

As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.

But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only one check left.

My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke I'd been drinking.

I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over.

The Coke is getting warm, and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need water.

I put the Coke on the counter and discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.

Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:

the car isn't washed,
the bills aren't paid,
there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter,
the flowers don't have enough water,
there is still only 1 check in my check book,
I can't find the remote,
I can't find my glasses,
and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day, and I'm really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail....

Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!!

Too funny! I have to admit that I get side-tracked a lot b/c I try to be so efficient with my time, but at least I usually get done with most what I want to by the end of the day! :)
