January catch-up

The kids had a snow day and it was either before Kent started school or he didn't have to go in that day, so he took them sledding. Harrison did not last more than 5 minutes (notice his upset face?), but the others had a ball. Nothing like a day off school for some snowy, winter fun!

Kent turned 33 in January! We went to this YUMMY BBQ place called South Street Smokehouse. They have DELICIOUS, HUGE onion rings and super yummy sandwiches, ribs, etc. I love the signature pigs and hurse in front of the restaurant! He got a new tackle box and some candy from his parents and the kids got him new slippers and two big Hershey cookies n' cream candy bars - his favorite!

This is the card I made my cousin when she had her baby. I sent her the clothes dividers and burp cloths I love to make for new babies. I really enjoy making homemade items as gifts - they usually save me a little money plus its nice to have a homemade touch to gifts I give.

Stuck at home on Christmas Eve . . .

Well, I thought I was clear of getting the 24-hr flu bug that Tyler had on Monday since it had been three days and I hadn't gotten sick, but last night I started feeling queasy and then in the middle of the night I got sick a couple times. JUST IN TIME for Christmas! So, Kent took the kids and a friend of his from school, who didn't have anywhere to go, to the Children's Museum and my parents' house today while I stayed here alone. I feel a little better than I did last night, but I still feel weak and my stomach sort of aches. I don't normally throw myself a pity party, but I have to admit that I kind of feel like it today. I mean, of all days, why did it have to be today???!!! Hopefully I'll feel better enough to not miss the Christmas Day festivities tomorrow. Most everyone who has had it around here says it only lasts 24 hours. Knowing my luck these days I'll have it longer! So to pass the time I took two naps (ready for my 3rd), watched boring day time TV, and did a couple sb layouts, which I think turned out pretty cute at least. The gray one really isn't crooked, but my scanner wouldn't scan it straight for some reason. I guess I was due for having to miss a Christmas due to illness since it doesn't hardly ever happen. I'm just glad it wasn't one of the kids b/c I know how much that would have stunk. I'm really surprised Kent or Harrison hasn't gotten it yet. Morgan seems to stay fairly healthy easier, but I guess we'll see in the next few days. Wishing all the rest of you a Merry Christmas!

Thumbs up . . . Thumbs down . . .

So it seems like it's been mostly thumbs down this week, but I guess I could find a few thumbs up, so here goes:

THUMBS DOWN: Kent got home after 10 p.m. every night this week due to finals
THUMBS UP: I didn't worry about making huge, fancy meals since he wasn't going to be home

THUMBS DOWN: Kent and I both got nasty colds this week, but mine was worse.
THUMBS UP: I was able to take a few naps this week and I'm feeling A TON better today

THUMBS DOWN: Our trip to Ohio was canceled AND our trip to Indy (for the kids' Fall Break) so what I thought was going to be a fun weekend hasn't turned out to be one! Being sick and having nasty, rainy, COLD weather too has definitely been the worst!!!
THUMBS UP: We saved some money on gas and entertainment (I'd rather have spent the $!) and at least we're not all sick and it is gorgeous weather so we are missing out on what could have been a great weekend due to illness!

THUMBS DOWN: Now Tyler and Harrison are sick with fevers, colds, etc today. I think Harrison's cold might be turning into an ear infection.
THUMBS UP: Kent and Morgan went to Lafayette to visit his brother who is visiting from out-of-town and so while the boys have been looking like this most of the day:

I have been able to have some "me" time and do this most of the day (and some yesterday):

I did a girl version and a boy version for Morgan and Tyler. This is with my Grandma von Harten. Oh, and my sister took the pictures - aren't they awesome?

I actually did this a few weeks ago, but I wanted to post it, so I threw it in with the rest. I took the layout idea from a friend of mine. (Kayli - I took it from the LO you did of Ethne as a baby in the fairy wings - can you tell? :) )

Here is what the poem says. It went perfectly with the picture! (which I also copied the pose from one Kayli had taken!)

Today I'll hold my baby's hand
And take time to explore
The secrets of a baby's world
This moment has in store.
For that same hand will wave good-bye
When baby days have passed.
Today I'll hold my baby's hand
For babies grow up fast.

scrapbook layouts (or should I say scraplifts?)

I've really enjoyed doing these because they have been fairly quick (if I'm not interrupted!) to make and I just really love to relax by scrapbooking, which I haven't done in ages! Thanks Kelly and Hilary for the layout ideas!

Scrapping time . . .

I've really been in the mood to scrapbook lately, maybe because I feel like I haven't had much relaxation-get-away-from-it-all time for myself, so I took some time out yesterday and today to do some lay-outs I've been wanting to do. Of course they are all scraplifted, but I couldn't help-it they were all just so darn great!

I tweaked this one the most and I think it turned out darling!

Thanks Candy for this picture! Love it of Macie and Morgan!

I am going to do a second page with a print-out of his blessing on it, but I can't find the little notebook I wrote it down in, dang-it! UGGGHH! How annoying!!!

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this layout!!!! Thanks Kayli for the GREAT idea! I think the picture needed to be a bit bigger, but oh well!
