Trip to Evansville

My cousins all came home for Christmas to Evansville this year, so we made a quick trip down there to see them and their families. We met up with them at the bowling alley and had a fun time just hanging out. Callie met her cousin who is about 3 weeks younger than her and they were both kind of curious at first, but then relaxed and enjoyed each other's company once the food was handed out!
Clockwise from left to right: John and Ryan; Cathryn and her new husband Stephen with Tyler; Beth and Addie with Callie and me; Addie and Callie; Beth and her husband Eric; Scott and wife Jana and their son Jackson (who is about a month older than Callie); the three little ones - Jackson, Callie and Addie.

Harrison beat Tyler and Morgan! I was the winner out of all of us (the Allens) and I think Ryan was the overall winner. Their little bowling shoes were so cute - especially Harrison's!

We went to visit my Grandma Elzer and the kids had a ball playing in her beauty shop in the basement. Tyler picked up the "vintage" phone and started dialing a bunch of numbers because he didn't know it was "real" and still worked! We all got a kick out of that and so we showed them how it works. Needless to say they had fun answering phone calls from us! They couldn't believe that we used phones like that when we were growing up! And I think that chair is from the 60s or somewhere around then! She's got some pretty cool "antiques"!

Us with Grandma Elzer

The next day we went over to the church and had a yummy lunch, played volleyball and just enjoyed visiting with my aunt and cousins. Thanks for the pictures, Beth! It was a quick trip, but I'm sure glad we went! We actually pulled the kids out of school for the last two days, so they missed their Christmas parties and Christmas program, but I was glad we got to see family we hardly ever get to see. I think the kids enjoyed it too.

Girl talk; my favorite cousin and me; playing volleyball; cheesing for the camera; the happy grandparents.

Louisville Temple Trip

We hadn't been able to go to the temple since I was pregnant, so we finally set a date and went. We ended up spending the night at my parents' house Friday night and then leaving the kids there and went to the Louisville temple on Saturday. The adversary sure was working on us, that's for sure! Friday night I got this HORRIBLE headache that just wouldn't go away for anything and of course we didn't sleep as well as we would have if we would have been in our own beds. The trip down and there was nice. We were going to go to this authentic Argentine restaurant afterwards (thanks for the idea Jessica!), and we found it just fine, but when we arrived, that's when it all seemed to go downhill. Come to find out, it didn't open until 5 p.m., and it was only 3 when we got there. I was so bummed because I was REALLY looking forward to some yummy empanadas and milanesas! We decided to eat at this pizza place down the block instead. BAD IDEA!!! It looked really cool, and the pizza looked delicious when we got it (maybe because we were starving!) but after eating a few bites, it wasn't nearly as good as I thought it was going to be. The deep dish was good, but there was a TON of cheese and the sauce was very tomatoey tasting. We ended up only eating 1/2 the pizza (only 2 pieces each!) and I had to scrape off a lot of the sauce. I was wanting to find a cute, unique ice cream shop afterwards, but after eating that pizza we just wanted to get out of there. The area where the restaurants were was actually kind of cool - it reminded me of Broadripple in Indianapolis- very artsy and unique. From what I could tell, I think the area was called Tyler Park, so that was kind of fun! There was this cool looking re-sale shop (I think) called Queen of Rags that had some pretty interesting things for sale that we parked near. If we would have had more time, then I think it would have been fun to go browse it! The only problem with the area was that it was VERY crowded with tons of cars parked up and down the skinny streets. It sort of made me feel claustrophic. We tried turning around, but didn't know our way around enough with the different circle monuments to get through and the roads not forming perfect square intersections. We probably spent a 1/2 hour trying to get back to the interstate!!!! When Kent and I are lost, I have a headache, the food was disappointing, we are tired, and are not familiar with the area, plus add that we can get stressed out easily then you can just imagine the tension and stress between us trying to find our way home! It was not a very pleasant ending to what I was wanting to be the "perfect day get-away with just the two of us", but we finally found the interstate and arrived at my parents' house. Luckily Kent offered to drive home so I could rest and try to get rid of my headache. I satisfied my craving for ice cream at Mom and Dad's with some yummy chocolate ice cream, which tasted so good. Next time, we will just sleep at home and go a little later so we can try out that cool restaurant, Palermo Viejo. I'm glad we got to go because we had a wonderful time in the temple, but the trip will definitely be memorable with all the things that went array!
